Daniel Pereira Bio:

Hailing from Braga, in Portugal’s Northwest region Minho, Daniel explores the potential of ancestral instruments from his region: cavaquinho, braguesa, and mandolin, among others. In his singing he reclaims the oral tradition, while his instrumental pieces, perfectly illustrate the cultural significance of these particular sounds.

Daniel started playing when he was 8 years old and, in the last few years since he started his solo career, has been seen as one of the most well-recognized “Cavaquinho” players in Portugal. In Daniel’s first solo album, Senhora Do Alivio (the Lady of Alivio) and As 7 Mulheres Do Minho (the Seven Women of Minho), each a “Cavaquinho Cantado” (a Cavaquinho Song), Daniel explores the sounds and music of his roots in the Cavaquinho – the ukulele’s grandfather – originally from northwestern Portugal (and later bought to Hawaii).

As a musician Daniel played in some of the most important theaters and festivals in Portugal, as well in Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, Croatia, Check Republic, Poland, Hungary, Brazil, USA and Canada, with projects like “Arrefole”, “Origem Tradicional”, “Neurónios Abariados”, “Dança dos Homens” and “Azeituna”.

A stylistically unique World Music performer with strong Portuguese roots, Daniel Pereira Cristo has been singing, performing, and playing throughout the course of his band and a constructing a unique style with his producer Hélder Costa. He has won over the hearts of many music lovers, performing at a variety of venues, public appearances and is right now working in his next EP, after his first prized solo album.
