The 4th Saturday in April is always Praca Cleaning Time. Members of the CAS Council will meet at the Praca de Cascais to give it a “spring cleaning” and plant new flowers.

at The Pines. A fund-raising event to sponsor the Youth Sailing Exchange between the Sausalito Yacht
Club and Clube Naval de Cascais. This year’s fado features an evening with Marisa Silva Rocha & Chico

June 22 – September 21, 2022 Culinary Intern Program

Culinary students from the Hotel and Tourism School of Estoril in the Municipality of Cascais will be interning in Sausalito as part of their curriculum. The Sausalito – Cascais Sister City Council in conjunction with the Spinnaker Restaurant and the Sausalito Yacht Club will be launching this new program bringing Portuguese culinary skills to Sausalito.

Youth Sailing Exchange

Six Youth Sailors ages 13- 16 from the Sausalito Yacht Club will fly to Lisbon to participate in the Youth Sailing Exchange with youth sailors from Clube Naval de Cascais. In addition to sailing, they will be involved in numerous cultural activities and home stay with their fellow sailors.

2013 will mark the 10th Anniversary of the signing of the Twinning Agreement between Sausalito and Cascais. Initial planning is underway and will be updated as we get closer to the event.

The Sausalito Music Revival (SMR) is a live music series with interviews celebrating the musical talent, history, and lore of the Bay Area. The ongoing concerts at Sausalito’s iconic venues including the Record Plant, the Trident, and more will be available for viewing through online streaming, ticketing, subscription, and limited VIP attendance until we are post-pandemic. Fado at The Pines V is a fund raising benefit to support the 2019 Youth Sailing Exchange Program between Cascais, Portugal and Sausalito, California. The Sausalito Yacht Club will be hosting youth sailors to Clube Naval Cascais in July 2019 at the Sausalito Yacht Club.

Seats are limited. Reserved seating is available for 114 guests.

Admission includes 2 drinks tickets. In addition to the fabulous Portuguese Petiscos and Wines, the evening will include a Port Tasting featuring vintage Portuguese Ports. The 2019 Raffle Prize is a Chefs Dinner for 12 guests featuring Thirty-Seven Winery and Paradise View Wines in their Winery Cellar Cave.

June 14 Jazz and Blues by the Bay is back!

This summertime concert series is famous for great music, stunning views and is a great time to spend with family and friends. Concerts are every Friday, May 31st to August 23rd, from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at Gabrielson Park in Downtown Sausalito.

Eight women business entrepreneurs from our sister city Viña del Mar, Chile will arrive 8/30. They will study and participate in the Sausalito Arts Festival, learning about volunteerism, festival operations, and community engagement. Following the SAF, they will participate in business workshops and tour several Sausalito businesses to learn about retail and marketing operations.

This year’s Sister City Fundraiser and the Third Annual Sausalito Wine Experience, www.sausalitowineexperience.org, will take place Sunday, October 13th 2-5pm. This is a first class afternoon and evening in the Alexandrite Suite and JUNTO at Casa Madrona. To add extra drama and excitement to the afternoon is Fleet Week and the Blue Angels show.

Again the venue is the beautifully renovated Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa overlooking the SF Bay. The tasting will be followed with the Vintners’ Dinner in JUNTO sponsored by Poggio. The 2019 Honorary Co-Chairpersons are Bill Price (Kistler, Gary Farrell, Three Sticks) and Bart Araujo (Accendo, Trois Noix, and Wheeler Farms Wines). All together, there will be 14 premium wineries pouring with small bites from our favorite local restaurants and an exclusive seated Vintners Dinner by Poggio.

All Tickets will go on sale in May. Stay tuned as both 2017 and 2018 sold out.

Sept 30 We are again the grateful beneficiaries of proceeds from the 2nd Annual Sausalito Wine Experience hosted by Casa Madrone and Poggio. Last year was a sell out, with great food and great wines. Special Vintner dinner in the Junto Room, limited capacity.

This is an event not to be missed — just ask those that attended last year!

Sakaide Events

April 6 – 10 Sausalito Delegation to Sakaide, Japan in honor of our 30-year sister city relationship. Twelve representatives from Sausalito will join in the celebration of more than 575 students exchanged between our two cities.
May We are partnering for the first time with New Village School and assisting them in their outward bound experience to Japan. Twenty 6th grade students from NVS will be visiting three schools in Sakaide and be exposed to life and school in a small Japanese town. This will be a wonderful cultural experience for these wide-eyed 11- and 12-year-olds.
July 28 Sakaide Japan Mayor Aya and their delegation will participate in Sausalito’s 30th Anniversary celebration in conjunction with Sausalito’s 125th year anniversary. A community welcome event is scheduled for 6pm at the Bay Model.

Get your cowboy boots on and join us in an all American BBQ feast & some ol’ fashion square dancing! We will host our friends from Japan as we celebrate our 30-year relationship together. This is a community celebration so all are welcome. A donation of $30 is requested for the evening.

Sausalito and Marin families will host up to fourteen visiting highschool students from Sakaide, Japan for a week of American cultural experiences.  Apply here to be a host family.

Cascais Events

April 28 Join us for an evening of Portuguese Fado singing. The evening performance, sponsored by the Sausalito Youth Sailing Foundation, is once again a benefit to support the 2018 Sister City Youth Sailing Exchange Program between Cascais, Portugal and Sausalito.

All Fado seats are reserved and we are limited to 124 guests to ensure everyone’s comfort at the Pines in the wine cellar ballroom, which is as authentic a Fado venue as you would find in Lisbon. Portuguese wine and petiscos are included in the evening. Tickets and details here.

June 11-13 A traditional and decorative compass rose pavement design, with Calcada stones from Portugal, will be created in the heart of downtown Sausalito this spring. The Calcada will be part of a new and improved plaza in front of the Bank of America building and will be called Praca de Cascais. It will include new landscaping and seating as well as the Calcada design. The Calcada stones and the artisan to perform the work are a gift from our sister city of Cascais.

In June, the Prime Minister of Portugal, Mayor of Cascais, the Portuguese Consul General Maria Joao Lopes-Cardoso, and other Portuguese VIPS will be in Sausalito to honor the sister city relationship and attend the dedication ceremony of Praca de Cascais (Cascais Plaza). To have your family or business commemorated on a bronze plaque in the plaza, consider making a donation to the project which is being totally funded by private donations and grants. In early July, youth sailors from the Sausalito Yacht Club (SYC) will travel to Cascais to sail, train and race with their counterparts at the Clube Naval de Cascais Yacht Club as part of the 4th annual Youth Sailing Exchange program. Last year, Sausalito families hosted Portuguese youth sailors, and this year, we will travel there. July 6 – 9 A delegation of Sausalito adults will travel to Lisbon and Cascais on a cultural and educational tour. These ambassadors will join the student sailors at Club Naval for the final days of their program and participate in a special recognition ceremony with city officials at the Cascais City Hall. Oct 10 – 21 Sausalito delegation of business women will travel to Viña del Mar and participate in more leadership, mentorship and business training for our women owned small business leaders with la Asociación Gremial de Empresarias y Profesionales, AGEP-V.

Come Fly With Us

“Come Fly With Us”, the first combined fundraising event for all three sister cities programs took place at Cavallo Point in Sausalito. The international ‘flight’ was fully booked. On board we were privileged to have our sponsors, Sushi Ran, Poggios, Copita, Cavallo Point plus Sausalito Art Festival, O’Connell Family Wines, PMRG, The Barn Road Foundation, Roxanne Sheridan and Gil Purcell, and Urban Real Estate Equities, who enabled excellent gastronome, goodwill, and great success.
